ART DEPARTMENT
At Drumglass High School the Art Department tries to support and advance the creative aspects of the curriculum by using a wide variety of learning media. No longer do we just use pencils and paint, we let pupils explore their creative sides using any medium they find suitable to reaching their final outcome.
The Art Department has recently begun a journey into the world of Digital Technology. With a new suite of computers (6 in total) each brimming with the last technology in digital media, pupils now are able to experience such things as animation, digital photography, graphic media, digital art, sound editing as well as digital film making and editing. Drumglass High school now has one of the most advanced Digital Developments in the Creative Area.
Pupils from all year groups can experience and use all the software through exciting projects that have been planned by the art department. Year 9 will be working with the Amma Centre to create their own clay animation movie. Year 10 will be working in groups to script, act, film, edit and add sound effects to their own 2 minute movies, who knows maybe Drumglass High School will produce its very own Steven Spielberg.
The GCSE Art classes both in year 11 and 12 use the new software to enhance their coursework through the use of digital photography. Karl Armstrong 12G4 has produced his very own music video for his art GCSE project. In 2006 the Art Department achieved 100% A-C grades with all GCSE Art and Design pupils.
This is an exciting time for the Art Department so watch this space for all the new developments.
