Aims;-

This specification aims to;-

Provide students with core knowledge about the hospitality industry & the skills required for working in it.

Encourage a student-centred approach to learning.

Give students the opportunity to apply their developing handling, relevant, enjoyable & work-related contexts.

Encourage students to make informed decisions about further learning opportunities & career choices in the hospitality industry.

Enable young people to develop and practice transferable skills that are important in working life.

Unit 1: The Hospitality Industry

Through studying this unit, students develop an understanding of the nature and diversity of the hospitality industry. They investigate the different products and services available to customers, the career opportunities and job roles, and the legislation governing the industry. Students also explore customer care and customer needs, including healthy eating and special diets.

3.2 Unit 2: Reception and Accommodation

In this unit, students explore the importance of, and the activities associated with, reception and accommodation, which are critical to the hospitality industry.

There are direct links with Unit 1, because reception and accommodation duties involve paying particular attention to the needs, tastes and preferences of different types of customers.

3.3 Unit 3: Food and Drink

This is a practical unit. Individually students plan, cost, prepare and cook meals. As a team, they organise a function. They compile a log book of the practical skills they acquire through carrying out these activities. Students put into practice the essential rules governing hygiene and health and safety at work.

Through studying this unit, students have opportunities to develop thinking, problem solving, decision-making, and self-management skills. This unit also gives them opportunities to be creative and practise the skills of working with others and managing

information.
