Maths

When delivering the mathematical curriculum in DHS we aim to suit the range of mathematical abilities of all pupils in the school. Throughout the maths journey we all take different paths, encountering many challenges along the way but in DHS we maximise the potential in understanding and applying maths. Some pupils start this voyage well prepared, others have less baggage and it is our aim in the maths department to build the confidence so as all pupils can achieve. Begin your mathematical journey in DHS.

Key Stage 3
Pupils in Yr 8-10 follow the programme of study of the Revised Curriculum for Maths. This covers:

  • Number

  • Algebra

  • Space, Shape and Measure

  • Data Handling

  • Investigative Tasks
At the end of this Key Stage, pupils partake in 3 Assessment Tasks which are marked by the teacher and moderated by the exam board. This will determine the level of the pupil at KS3. The aim is to provide a solid foundation where the pupils can later progress to GCSE Maths or Essential Skills. GCSE

Pupils follow the 2-tier GCSE Mathematics’ course offered by CCEA which allows all pupils to have access to at least a grade C.
